“[I] would highly recommend it, it’s a reet good read”

It's not just a book about running
In 2010, aged fifty and at a crossroads in life, Steve accepted his son's invitation to join him at the gym. He was not a runner, and his family found the idea of a marathon hard to believe.
Eight years later he crossed the finish line of the Brighton Marathon, beating his target time by more than fifteen minutes. He has since run five marathons, three of them in London.
The book follows the unlikely road, from the awkward first attempts through training, setbacks and small triumphs to the finish lines at Brighton and, eventually, London. Running through it all is the loss of Steve's mother, and a reflection on family, on laughter, and on the way the people we love keep shaping us even after they're gone. It's heartfelt, often funny, and written for anyone who has ever thought “I can't”.

Steve Denniss
Away from the running track, Steve is an engineer. For more than forty years he has worked on major projects around the world, over thirty of them advising on rail schemes across the UK, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
In recent years he has given more and more of his time to young people, visiting schools, colleges and universities as a STEM ambassador.

“Finishing the marathon felt like proof in my hand that I had done something once entirely
out of reach”
The finish line is only the beginning
The qualities that carried Steve from non-runner to marathon finisher are the same ones acornITy is built on. It starts from a simple belief: every great venture begins as a small idea. acornITy exists to be a growth partner, turning those ideas into meaningful progress by working side by side with people and organisations and helping them build the confidence to reach their full potential.
That means coaching and mentoring for people finding or changing direction, consultancy for businesses with a challenge to solve, and events and workshops that bring people together to learn. Through its partnerships with schools, acornITy also helps inspire the next generation by bringing science and space to life.
